 Find Me Gluten Free

Making gluten-free
eating accessible

Find Me Gluten Free is an app that allows users to discover gluten-free restaurants, grocery stores, and products near them. It is perfect for those newly diagnosed with Celiac disease or a gluten intolerance and is especially useful when traveling. As a long-time user of the app, I decided to perform a quick redesign of some of its features.

App redesign

The gluten free diet is more common than ever among Canadians. 355,000 have Celiac disease and
2.1 million are gluten-intolerant.

Empathize and Define

First, let's take a look at the current state of the app and identify some issues and project goals.

Design Issues

  • Homepage is very busy

  • Restaurant list is very text-heavy

  • Flow of the app is a bit confusing

User Needs

  • Browse and search for restaurants that have gluten-free options nearby

  • Distinguish between restaurants that offer gluten-free options, those that are dedicated gluten-free, and those that are the most celiac-friendly

  • Find credible customer reviews

  • Upload reviews

Project Goals

  • Create a more modern and eye-catching design

  • Improve readability

  • Improve browsing

  • Minimize information given on general pages

Note:

Since this is a personal project and just a concept, I was not able to gather as much information as I would have liked. With more time and resources, I would conduct more research including user interviews, surveys, focus groups, and a competitive scan.

Ideation: Low-fidelity sketches of the homepage

Testing

At this point, I would test an initial version of the app to see how users interact with it. I would look for any pain points or friction they might be experiencing and then go back to the drawing board to ideate how I could improve the app to relieve some of this friction and instead create moments of delight. I would conduct several rounds of testing and iterate before coming to the final product. In this case, I have a sample final product of some of the pages below.
